Assessment

In the 25-26 school year, our teachers worked to track student progress aligned to benchmarks in 5 keys areas: reading fluency (or early literacy for students in kindergarten), high frequency word recognition, spelling, writing, and math facts.  Having fluency in these areas will make more complex learning easier by lightening some of the cognitive load for students as they advance in skill. 

In addition to classroom assessments for reading, writing, math, and science, we also have district and state assessments that help us measure individual student progress and the effectiveness of our instruction.  

• Students take the iReady diagnostic assessment in Reading and Math three times per year.  This assessment tells us how much growth a student has made over the course of the year, how they are scoring relative to other students in the same grade level across the country, and whether or not a student is showing proficiency in grade level standards.  Families can access their child's diagnostic reports at any time by having their child sign into Clever, clicking on iReady, and then choosing the "for families" link in the top right corner.  Enter code 829CK3 and select which reports you want in English or Spanish.  You can learn more about iReady here.
• Students in grades 3-5 also take the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) and students in grade 5 take the Nevada Science Criterion Referenced Test (CRT) in fourth quarter (usually April).  This assessment tells us how students are performing relative to grade level standards and, in grades 4 and above, how much growth a student is making year to year.  Assessment results are mailed to families in the fall after we get them from the State.  You can learn more about these assessments here.
• Our students who are multilingual learners also take the English Language Proficiency Assessment.  This assessment gives us an idea of what students can do with languge in the domains of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.  Students take this assessment in quarter 3 (usually February) each year.  You can learn about the WIDA ACCESS assessment here.
